I have been talking with Rufus about the 899th meal plan and I believe that it is a bargain! For roughly $5 a day (give or take a buck) you will have 2 meals ready for you.
I am understanding that it is breakfast and dinner, but regardless, it is a bargain.
I can not eat on that each day. I would highly recommend everyone look into this as a means of saving some money this year.
I am planning on about 3~5 days of it myself. Heck, you even get too enjoy Rufus' company, if you call that a good thing! LOL!!!

All jokes aside, if you want to save some money and have a hot meal ready for you, at specified times, you should consider this..

First off, I am not sure what the breakfast menu will incorporate, but from what I heard, it is not "crappy cereal".

As far as signing up, I will get with Rufus and get some more info..

Before anyone can sign up, I need to get all the details. It will definitely not be cereal.
Trust me on this, you could not feed yourself what you will be eating for $5 a day, probably not even $10 a day.

Aside from the meal plan, I don't mind cooking for everyone (well not everyone), if you are willing to buy the food.
I can plan a menu with 3 or 4 items and you can pick from the items listed. Majority rules. Everyone eats the same thing.
For obvious reasons, I would need to have a count early in the week so I could go shopping. Would need at least 2 cooking surfaces, type depends on menu. NO latecomers! You pay up front!

Tips accepted!

Examples
Grilled Chicken with Red Wine and Balsamic Vinegar Reduction
Grilled Asparagus
Risotto Fungi

Dessert
Sweet Beer Glazed Mango-Pineapple Brochette (Skewer)

Seeing as how this can be good for the whole 4th, I'm moving this topic.

While I'm not a member of the 4th, I strongly encourage everyone
who is to sign up for the 'meal deal.' The Canadians did this last
year and it was such a big siccess that they're expanding their deal
to include more of the Commonwealth's units. It not only makes
it easier to insure you get good meals for less money, it also saves
time as well as helps builds unit integrity.

Sincerely,

Probie the 4th has a Large GP Tent set up at the front of the main campsite. Most likely meals will be prepared there, unless a joint plan is worked out with the 899th.

I like this idea...I would be willing to throw in y money for the whole week. Better than spegetti-o's off of a tree. I could help rufus on the prep if he wanted me too I know my way around some food.

Just wanted to throw this out for you to consider. Back when my wife
and I were cooking for folks during MX Sport's events at Camp Blanding,
we used to prep up for breakfast by preparing our scrambled eggs ahead
of time. We'd store them in freezer proof baggies, which we'd lay flat in
the freezer. Each package contained a dozen eggs. These flat packages
then helped to keep the rest of our things cold, sort of like reusable ice
packs do. For bacon we priced it out and the best deal was to go with
Hormel's large precooked strips packages, or with precooked sausage
links.

Andy brings up something that needs to be thought about. It takes staffing to cook for a large group of people. Also equipment and food!
The food obviously will be bought with the money charged to those eating the food, but we would need a way of storing it. (or someone would have to make daily food runs)

These things need to be though out before we show up. Is there anyone with real world experience that wants to take this. NOTE: This is a JOB. We will be cooking for hours (possibly) each day! This may cause you to miss some events and social times.

With proper preparation, ie: preparing the base items ahead,
you ought to be able to get the job done with 2-3, that is if
you're talking about cooking for a couple hundred people. I'd
begin by laying out what you plan to fix, then scouting round
for the best prices. Figure on purchasing a propane grill as
well, preferably one with a side burner. Things like the eggs
and bacon or sausage go into foil pans that get tossed after
you're done, so there's less clean up afterwards.

Also look for deals at local 'Save-a-Lot' or Sam's Clubs, on
things. We worked it out so it was costing us roughly 50-
60 cents each, including burger, bun, cheese. We sold them
for 1.50 plain or 2.00 w/cheese. Hotdogs sold for a 1.00.
Get your buns and bread at a bakery outlet and see if you
can work a deal with them to save even more. When you
buy a dozen trays of buns you typically get a better deal.

Coffee requires a coffee maker, so figure on buying one of
those as well, but remember it also needs power. If you
plan this right, a group of 2-3 could pay for their week just
off of the profits they'd make, not counting anything extra
they might be able to pick up off of sales to folks who didn't
buy into the deal ahead of time.

All very good points Andy.

As I previously stated I do not mind at all cooking for the 4th, however I will have obligations with the 899th as well.
We will discuss a joint cooking plan after winter meeting, at which time our schedules should be a little more solid.

What happened to the possibility of doing this with the 899th? I thought that I read somewhere that they were looking for more people for this.

icehouse to be honest with you, I do not know all the details yet. Beatle has been off the grid for some time now, and there seem to be other pressing matters being discussed on the 899th boards. I would invite you to drop in and attempt to revive the subject, see what kind of response you can get.
